The New Haven Chorale is pleased to have forged a relationship with Josh Sparkman, the 2018-19 Composer-in-Residence. The Chorale sought to forge a stronger and broader relationship with Mr. Sparkman after it premiered two stunning compositions last season, a new arrangement of “Here We Come A-Caroling” at the Holiday Collage Concert, and “I Shall Not Live in Vain” at The Water is Wide concert in February. Josh Sparkman is a composer and music educator working in West Hartford who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in music education from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, and a master’s degree in composition from The Hartt School of the University of Hartford. Josh is also the music director at Farmington Avenue Baptist Church in West Hartford. The New Haven Chorale looks forward to singing his new creations before concert audiences throughout the year.

The New Haven Chorale

  • The New Haven Chorale is an auditioned, 85-voice, professionally-conducted, volunteer chorus devoted to serving the Greater New Haven community by nurturing local choristers, presenting extraordinary performances, and using music creatively to make a difference in people’s lives. Our performances, which have been described as "electrifying" and "deeply moving," raise spirits and help fund local non-profits. Our educational initiatives and mentoring opportunities open doors for new generations. We expand the scope of choral art by commissioning music and showcasing Connecticut composers. Our devotion to musical excellence, nurturing local musicians, and serving the community through choral music has kept the Chorale unique and dynamic for 68 years in which its members have collectively donated over two million hours of their lives!
